When a patch of the Cafe Wall pattern is turned 90o from the patten surrounding it, a curious slight percept of motion develop. As can be seen here, the patch seems occasionally to drift slightly relative to its background. The 'devil's eye' figure seen later in this collection shows the same effect in a more active setting derived from a 'gradient' version of the Cafe Wall Illusion.
